Bay of Fires: Sloop Reef

We spent a fair bit of time at the Sloop Reef during this months Bay of Fires trip. The Sloop Reef is one of my favourite spots and it was great seeing it under moody grey clouds with steady waves crashing below.

As the dusk went on the greyness became, well, greyer…but the blue of the sea really started to come through

This selection of photos was captured at dusk. Hoping for a colorful sunset, the clouds kind of ruled that out but the greyness was really quite nice and allowed for some great long exposures. I used my 5 stop neutral density filter for most of these.

Stepping back from the edge, the lines of the rocks add plenty to the scene

Last shot of the evening, looking out east, still with the ND for the long exposure.

My next Bay of Fires photography workshop is scheduled for October 8-11. We will also visit the rainforest at St Columba Falls. Check the link for the details and to book a place click here.
