On my 2 day Tasmanian photography tour & workshop to the wonderful east coast, including Freycinet National Park and Bicheno, we will photograph magnificent coast scenery including the rugged granite “Hazards” mountain range and long dreamy expanses of white sand. In season we will look at the wonderful coast wildflowers, or keep an eye out for the wildlife of the region including wallabies, pademelons and a great range of seabirds.
During the evening a short post-processing tutorial is also included. All aspects of landscape photography will be covered, from sunrise/sunsets, macro and potentially wildlife. My workshops are aimed at beginners to intermediate, or to anyone who would like to pick up some local advice on some great Tasmanian photography locations all over the state.

We will be on well formed tracks. The walk to Wineglass Bay is relatively strenuous but by no means difficult. The track to the lookout is very well maintained but the track down to the beach is rougher. We will travel at a comfortable pace so bring as much as you are happy to carry. The emphasis is on photographing the beach, crashing waves and exquisite lichen patterns on the granite boulders. We will practice long exposure at dusk and dawn, and we will travel to location by vehicle for these shoots (Day 1 and Day 2).
The exact time of sunrise/sunset shots; and therefore hotel check in and meals will depend on the seasonal time of the sunset/sunrise. You will receive a detailed itinerary prior to tour commencement. The drive from Bicheno (accommodation) to Coles Bay (sunset shoot) or Friendly Beaches (sunrise shoot) is approximately 30-40 minutes.
The aim of this tour is seascape photography, which can produce stunning images. The very nature of this tour will bring us into very close proximity to crashing waves and sharp and slippery rocks – please take all necessary precautions for your own gear; and please do not proceed further than you are comfortable in the low light conditions. Luke O’Brien Photography will not accept any responsibility for any damage to camera equipment which results from participation in this tour.
The weather is generally a lot milder on the east coast than the west coast, but it is always a good idea to check forecasts in the lead up to a workshop and pack accordingly. Click for weather forecast at Coles Bay.
Coles Bay is approx 2.5~3 hours driving time from Hobart. There will be many stopping points along the way both from Hobart on Day 1 and returning to Hobart on Day 3. The Friendly Beaches are approximately 20 mins drive from Coles Bay, all other locations within the National Park are within approx 5 mins drive from our accommodation.
