Aurora October 11 2024

2024 has been a great year for the aurora! The world was dazzled back in May when the aurora appeared in places it normally wouldn’t. Here in Tassie we experienced lights all over the sky that night – north, south, east and west – the first time I had seen that.

And now, once again, we have had another remarkable night under the lights. The aurora of October 11 2024 danced with the moonlight as beams reached right to the zenith. The action was short and very sweet, with most of the best action happening between dusk at 8:30 through to around 10:00.

I’ll let the photos do the talking 🙂

Most of these shots were taken with a very short shutter speed, mostly between 2-4 seconds. The moonlight meant it was reasonably bright and the aurora itself was giving off plenty of light, with some orangey-pink colour visible to the naked eye at times!

All in all the aurora of October 11 2024 must be the best aurora I have seen since, well, the aurora of May 11 2024
