4 Days / 3 Nights: September 2017 now fully booked. Stay tuned for Autumn 2018 dates!

** Night sky, Sunset & Sunrise at Dove Lake and Tasmania’s best waterfalls **

This is a special extended version of my 3 day Cradle Mountain photography workshop, with night sky photography session/s a major feature of this workshop. The aim will be to shoot at Dove Lake, with stars and star trails and with a bit of luck the aurora australis too. During the day we will turn our attention to some of the most beautiful waterfalls Tasmania has to offer. We will shoot Crater Falls and Pencil Pine Creek at Cradle Mountain and take a half day trip to Philosopher Falls in the Tarkine. On our return drive to Hobart we will spend a few hours at the superb Nelson Falls and Lake St Clair. Another special inclusion is a visit to the Tasmanian Devil park at Cradle Mountain.

Nelson Falls Tasmania

Nelson Falls, a lovely short walk. We will visit this fall and Lake St Clair on the drive back to Hobart. September 12-15, 2017.

Tour Notes

Sunset is approx 18:00 in September. Sunrise is approx 6:20 in September. We will spend at least one-two hours in the field for each of these shoots meaning it will be dark (and likely VERY cold) prior to sunrise/after sunset.

We will only undertake easy hiking, the main aim of the workshop being tuition and shooting time. We will visit Crater Falls, which is uphill and approximately 30 minutes each way from Ronny Creek/Waldheim. The Philosopher Falls track is very good, but likely to be wet and perhaps muddy in places. There is a steep set of stairs at the end. Nelson Falls is a very easy 10 minute walk (one way) on a very good track.

** Please take all care and responsibility for your own equipment while outdoors **

Cradle Mountain in particular can present any type of weather at any time of year. Please check the Cradle Mountain weather forecast carefully before the tour departs and bring windproof and waterproof gear (jacket and pants), as well as lots of warm clothing including thermal layers and a down jacket. An umbrella can be a useful piece of equipment too, especially if you enjoy macro photography.

Driving Time: Cradle Mountain is approximately 4.5 hours driving time from Hobart. We will break the drive with a couple of stops, including lunch. The drive from the hotel to Dove Lake is approx 20 minutes.
