Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Hobart for Corinna Plenty to photograph on the way through Tasmania’s wilderness World Heritage Area as we travel to Corinna, arriving on dusk.
Day 2: Full day in the rainforest around Corinna including early morning cruise on the Pieman River where we aim to capture morning mist and reflections followed by a full day exploring the rainforest.
Day 3: Full day out at the Philosopher Falls forest Beautiful myrtle and sassafras filled rainforest walk. Finish the day with a sunset shoot over Mt Donaldson and the buttongrass moorlands.
Day 4: Transfer to Arthur River: Our last morning in Corinna before heading north to our first sunset shoot on the wild west coast near Arthur River.
Day 5: Explore the wild takayna coast We’ll spend the whole day exploring various locations along the incredible Tarkine coast, finishing with another sunset over the sea.
Day 6: Arthur River Cruise Half day cruise on the Arthur River including a gourmet BBQ lunch. Our final sunset shoot. Image review after dinner – we’ll enjoy the space at Arthur River lodge to enjoy an informal discussion and sharing of images captured during the week.
Day 7: Farewell to Takayna/Tarkine via the impressive Trowutta Arch on the Tarkine forest drive. Return to Hobart via Launceston.
What to Bring
- Camera, tripod and accessories. Don’t forget chargers and spare batteries/memory cards!
- Wet weather gear (for yourself and for your camera). Warm clothing and head-torch for the sunrise/sunset shoots. Sun protection.
- Comfortable hiking shoes (not sneakers).
- A full list of suggested items and a detailed itinerary will be forwarded to you during the booking process.
Tour Notes
About Corinna
The accommodation at Corinna is an extremely comfortable cottage-style accommodation. Everyone on the trip will have their own private cottage. Meals here are prepared by the staff at the Tannin Restaurant in the reception building/bar (included in tour fee).
About Arthur River Lodge
Arthur River (the town) is very remote and to avoid long drives in the dark, this trip will utilise accommodation on the coast, a short drive to multiple scenic sunset locations.
The accommodation is not hotel style, instead Arthur River Lodge is a large property with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens and 2 large living areas. There will be ample space to relax on your own, or to enjoy some photography chit chat in between our outdoor sessions.
We will prepare breakfast and lunch here with supplies we will shop for together in Smithton en route to Arthur River (included in tour fee).
Dinner in Arthur River will be at the Marrawah Inn, a short drive from our accommodation at Arthur River Lodge (included in tour fee).
Other Notes
We will only undertake easy hiking, the main aim of the workshop being tuition and time in the field shooting. It is important to note of course that the nature of the workshop involves uneven rocky shorelines so please take care in the low light of dusk. The hike to Philosopher Falls is up to 40 minutes one way but the track is of a very good standard, although often wet and muddy.

The Tarkine is a remote area in the far north west of Tasmania which means all sorts of weather is possible. Please check the Marrawah weather forecast before the tour departs for an idea on what to expect on the coast. A raincoat and rain pants should be considered essential, as well as lots of warm clothing including thermal layers and possibly a down jacket for extra warmth and comfort. A full list of suggested/recommended gear will be provided during the booking process.
