** Night sky, Sunset & Sunrise at Dove Lake, Tasmanian Devil Park and some of Tasmania’s best waterfalls **
4 day Cradle Mountain photography workshop. During the daylight hours we will photograph amazing alpine rainforest and fast flowing Tasmanian waterfalls such as Crater Falls, Philosopher Falls and Nelson Falls. After hours we will head down to Dove Lake to shoot sunrise, sunset and the night sky and with a bit of luck the aurora australis too. Another special inclusion is a visit to the Tasmanian Devil park at Cradle Mountain.
Day 1: Depart Hobart for Cradle Mt Highlights: Afternoon exploring the ancient landscapes at Cradle Mountain – including our first sunset and hopefully night-sky shoot at Dove Lake.
Day 2: Full Day shoot at Cradle Mt Highlights: Sunrise and sunset at Dove Lake; waterfalls and rainforest around Waldheim including the waterfalls along Pencil Pine Creek.
Day 3: Side trip to Philosopher Falls Highlights: Stunning half day and simply sublime rainforest in Tasmania’s Tarkine. Devils@Cradle to shoot the Tasmanian Devil. Sunset at Dove Lake.
Day 4: Return to Hobart via Nelson Falls & Lake St Clair Highlights: Final sunrise shoot followed by shoots at Nelson Falls and Lake St Clair. Return to Hobart around 19:00.
* Night Sky Session/s will be scheduled based on weather.
$2495.00 per person (single room for all guests). Twin-share available only to friends/partners who are traveling together, details on booking page.
Includes three nights accommodation in your own private room at the Cradle Mt Hotel, all transport (starting & finishing Hobart), Devils@Cradle and National Parks entry, all meals from lunch Day 1 to lunch Day 4. Camera notes and post processing notes are also provided. Post processing session will be scheduled one evening. Participants will need to make their own way to/from Hobart. We can recommend/arrange accommodation in Hobart if requested (this accom cost is not included in above fee).
- Camera, tripod and accessories. Don’t forget chargers and spare batteries/memory cards!
- Wet weather gear (for yourself and for your camera). Warm clothing and head-torch for the sunrise/sunset shoots.
- Comfortable hiking shoes (not sneakers).
- Water bottle/snacks for our sessions in the field.
- A full list of suggested items will be forwarded to you shortly before workshop commences.

On the return to Hobart, we will visit Nelson Falls and Lake St Clair in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area
Sunset is approx 18:30 and sunrise is approx 6:00 in late September. We will spend at least one-two hours in the field for each of these shoots meaning it will be dark (and likely VERY cold) prior to sunrise/after sunset.
We will shoot sunrise once, with a possible extra attempt based on weather conditions, and sunset everyday. We will attempt at least one night session too, as long as weather conditions allow.
We will only undertake easy hiking, the main aim of the workshop being tuition and shooting time. Both Crater Falls and Philosopher Falls involve short hikes of approx 30 minutes each way. The Philosopher Falls track is very good, but likely to be wet and perhaps muddy in places. There is a steep set of stairs at the end. Nelson Falls is a very easy 10 minute walk (one way) on a very good (wheelchair accessible) track.
** Please take all care and responsibility for your own equipment while outdoors **
This region can present any type of weather at any time of year. Please check the Cradle Mountain weather forecast carefully before the tour departs and bring windproof and waterproof gear (jacket and pants), as well as lots of warm clothing including thermal layers and a down jacket. An umbrella can be a useful piece of equipment too, especially if you enjoy macro photography.
