Long Exposure Seascape Photography, Freycinet National Park
The Jewel in the Crown for seascape photography on Tasmania’s East Coast is Freycinet National Park. The most easily visited locations within the National Park are the Friendly Beaches, Sleepy Bay and Honeymoon Bay. You can drive yourself to within a few minutes of all these locations but Bluestone Bay is only accessible by vehicle if you have 4WD. The alternative is to park on the Cape Tourville Road and walk along the bumpy old road to this magic little spot. An overnight stay is highly recommended here as the opportunities for great seascape photography are highly enhanced at those golden hours, dawn and dusk.
The true beauty of the bay became fully apparent with the low light conditions of dusk, as the lightly rolling surf washed back and forth against the beautifully smooth and colourful granite stones that Freycinet is so well known for.
Long exposure seascape photography is one of the most rewarding forms of photography for the landscape photographer. Colour in the sky, the smooth texture of the water and dramatic light and shade make for spectacular results.
