Platypus viewing in Tasmania – and indeed anywhere in Australia – requires more than a little luck. Notoriously shy, and extremely well camouflaged, in Tasmania they inhabit ponds, rivers and lakes all over the state.

This platypus viewing encounter popped up during a recent 3 day private photography workshop for a couple of guests. We were exploring Mt Field and the forests of south west Tasmania when this little guy popped up in front of Horseshoe Falls.

As well as firing off a few shots I thought a quick phone video would be worthwhile too.
