Sunrise The Needles Tasmania

The Needles Tasmania is an incredibly rewarding hike in the South West National Park just out of Maydena. The walk starts from the car park on the Gordon River Road at the high point with the sign giving the altitude and rainfall data. For the first short while you will follow pink and green tags through the scrub, but once you clear that then the path is quite easy to follow as you make your way through the buttongrass.

The views are some of the best in Tasmania you can get for the relative ease of the walk. Even with a pack and camera gear it was only a little over an hour to the summit. The mountains you can see from the summit include include Mt Field, the Snowy Range, Mt Mueller, Mt Wedge and the Thumbs. The mountains in these images are Mt Field and Mt Tim Shea.

The morning was gloriously clear and the only cloud was the mist filled valleys below. Needless to say I was up early and shooting LOTS 🙂 These shots were all taken with no filter at all bar the natural clean air of South West Tasmania.

I have a few more shots to share from this shoot, including some rather magnificent misty scenes involving the giant trees of the Upper Florentine Valley – stay tuned!
