Boat Harbour Sunrise
I captured this rather stunning sunrise at Boat Harbour in north west Tasmania recently. I was up in Wynyard to set up my exhibition “Solitude” which runs until the end of October, and while there took the opportunity to shoot in and around the Waratah-Wynyard area.
Boat Harbour is a tiny seaside town around 20 minutes from Wynyard. Access is by the Port Rd off the main Highway as you head west from Wynyard. Continue further along this road and you get to Sisters Beach and the Rocky Cape National Park – an area I am going to have to make some time for on a future trip!
Back at Boat Harbour, the road ends at a beach, and a short walk takes you to a jagged rocky point, ideal for some good old fashioned long exposure seascape photography 🙂
The pre dawn colour was fantastic this trip, and I took many shots with the aid of my ND grads, and a few with the Interval Composite (Multiple Exposure) mode that I have written about a few times recently.
The cloud on the horizon muted the harsh sunlight after sunrise, and allowed me to keep shooting well after sunrise. The light on the rocks and the long views down the coast were stunning… Is it too early to be thinking about my 2017 calendar? The shot above is my personal fave!
I will be up in Wynyard again in the weeks ahead, as the tulip festival kicks in to gear and the exhibition continues right through October.
