Sunrise Bicheno Blowhole
The Bicheno Blowhole is a nice little spot not far from the middle of Bicheno on Tasmanias east coast. In terms of photography locations, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes. It is close to your accommodation and the car park is right beside the blowhole. There are all sorts of patterns in the rock – lichen and cracks all compete for your attention while the blowhole explodes with water as the waves crash. This particular morning also included the most amazing sunrise I have ever shot – filters were utterly unnecessary as the colour exploded across the sky. One for the ages 🙂
I started shooting relatively wide (24mm) to capture the beautiful rocks, with the aim of contrasting the lines and cracks in the foreground with the beams and rays of the sunrise. As the morning went on, I zoomed in on the blowhole itself. I usually shoot with a 2 second delay but for this shoot I attached the remote so that I could shoot as soon as I saw the blowhole blow. It was quite a treat. Literally one of those moments when you really relish being outdoors and being in the moment.
