Tasmanian Landscape Photography: Sunrise Mt Wellington

Sunrise Mt Wellington – a series of shots taken last week during the Dark Mofo lightshow which has been all the rage the past couple of weeks in Hobart.

It took me a while to stumble across the dolerite boulders on Mt Wellington to get into position but when I did, the sunrise was just starting to appear. I only had a short amount of time to shoot the Dark Mofo lightshow, as it is turned off at dawn but the images above and below both contain the lights of “Articulated Intersect” – look closely!

Once the artificial lights were switched off natures lightshow slowly but surely took over. The contrast of the red and orange fire of the sunrise against the stark colourless tones of the mist and rocks was magnificent to watch.

The image above was a 6 minute exposure captured with the use of a 10 stop ND filter, while the shot below was taken immediately after with no filter attached at all.
