Winter at Freycinet – the Milky Way
Next month I will be running a special winter light and astro photography workshop at Freycinet and to whet your appetite, here are some shots from a couple of years ago.
Don’t let the cold weather put you off – winter is a stunning time to explore Tasmania! Especially for photographers – the days are short and there is lovely light over the landscape for a good part of those short hours. And at night – shots like these can be had very early in the evening, as it is dark by 6:00!
This new workshop is running from July 22-25, which, by no coincidence is new moon, meaning the night sky will be extremely dark. Our goal is to shoot the Milky Way, Magellanic Clouds and – fingers crossed, on top of all that, the Aurora Australis.
Freycinet is a great location to shoot the aurora, with the iconic Hazards (mountains) in the foreground or from various vantage points around the National Park.
As well as our astro shoot/s, we will of course fill our days exploring the park – by air, sea and foot! To really capture the winter light, we will join Freycinet Air for a scenic flight and Wineglass Bay Cruises for a half day cruise!
On the final day of the trip, we will stop in at the Tasmanian Landscapes Gallery in Richmond to do a post processing session based on the images we have captured during the week. This tour really does have everything! View all the details, and fill out the booking form, on the dedicated page on my website.
