Fungi Season!

Autumn means fungi season! It looks like the hot dry summer might be slowly releasing its grip, and the forest can breathe a sigh of relief as the cooler weather kicks in.

Fungi season 2016

Autumn really is my favourite time of year to get out and explore (and photograph!) Tasmania. The fungi is a huge highlight as are the deciduous fagus leaves.

On a recent Bay of Fires trip, we stopped by the rainforest at St Colomba Falls. I thought it would be a little early for the fungi, but here and there it was beginning to appear.

And on a related note, I discovered the following guide to Tasmanian fungi at Salamanca Market yesterday – the FungiFlip!

FungiFlip Fungi Guide Tasmania

FungiFlip Fungi Guide Tasmania – No doubt this is going to become a very handy guide!

Along the lines of the TreeFlip and EucaFlip, it is a waterproof, fold up field guide. The fungi version only really lists scientific names, but there are a great many fungi listed. Once you have found the name of your fungi, more detailed information is only a google search away.
