Warra Falls on the Arthur River Cruise in Tasmania's Tarkine

Warra Falls

Warra Falls is a great little series of cascades on Warra Creek, which is a small tributary of the Arthur River in the Tarkine. It is only accessible by joining the wonderful half day Arthur River Cruise, and is one of the highlights of my Tarkine Photography Workshops.

Warra Falls, a delightful set of cascades enjoyed as part of the Arthur River Cruise

Warra Falls is a short 10-15 minute walk from the landing on Arthur River. The walk follows the creek past really impressive tree ferns to a nook on the river where the cascades come tumbling down. The ferns surrounding the fall are really impressive 🙂

Warra Creek before and after the floods

On this years trip in May, I was very surprised to come across a flat and wide section of the path that I didn’t remember and sure enough, our guide explained that the floods of October 2022 demolished one part of the track! It looked like a construction zone, like a road was being pushed through.

Demolition zone! The floods of October 2022 had a big impact on Warra Creek

Before the floods – a lot of beautiful old tree ferns got wiped out sadly

Luckily Warra Falls retains all its ferny glory 🙂

A lot of really nice ferns got wiped out, so some of these pics are now a bit of history, captured in fact in September 2022 just before the flood. Warra falls itself still looks great, so don’t fret. A visit here is still a highlight! Particularly so when you consider that while we are enjoying the waterfall, our guides are in fact cooking up a storm on the BBQ for lunch back at Warra landing!
